Discussion about Sony's groundbreaking Playstation Portable Take Bacon wherever you go

It needs just one

I can name (which I have) at least 3 games that are viable reasons to buy a DS. Granted the PSP is more than just a gaming system but that's the primary reason why, I think, anyone should buy one.

Can anyone name just one game that is worth the price tag?

Now take into affect I bought a PSP. I had Lumines, Darkstalkers, Mega Man X, and GTA: LCS. I sold it for the DS and have never been happier.

If I had to come up with any games for the PSP that were worth the price tag... I'd have to say Puzzle Quest. Granted, the DS stylus makes the game pretty damn easy to control, Puzzle Quest is just TOO good a game to be left unplayed.

The only other game I really played was Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee. It was a fun waste of time when I traveled.

Other than that, I would say load the SNES emulator and go to town! Nintendo FTW!

(Or you could bring up the fact that you get AWESOME little UMD movies for only $25 a piece! Save over -$5 over DVD!!1)

DevHook... Theres the reason to have a PSP. I just got Devhook working which allows me to have the best of both PSP worlds. I have firmware version 1.5 so I can run homebrew. But Devhook allows me to run firmware 3.01 so I can play new games also. Not only can I play new games, I can play games from their images on my memory stick. The only downside is that I now that I have all of these games on my hard drive of my computer I have to buy a 4GB memory stick to hold more than just one or two at a time, thank god the price came down to only $50. PSPs are well worth the new low price then the time of downgrading to 1.5fw. I am in love with my PSP again for the first time since first running NES roms.

First off, welcome buddy!

But what game would you try and get people to buy/download the PSP with?

I do agree with Gnoxious that Puzzle Quest is great anywhere, but I could never tell someone to buy a PSP for it because they would find it 10x better on the DS.

There are several people here at work that are Sony fans to the bone and love the fact that their systems are more media centers than pure video gaming machines (I'm leaving X-box out of this discussion...). They prefer spending the extra money on media cards so they can store tons of music, movies, etc... So in addition to playing the $50 games on the PSP, they can watch movies and play games and movies.

As a previous owner of the PSP, I must say my all time favorite thing about it was playing the NES and SNES games. As ABZsilch stated, it really sucked having to continuously upgrade/downgrade the firmware to play the emulator. I found myself not really using the PSP for games at all after a while... My solution for the need for movies and music on the go was an 80 GB iPod (which plays games like PacMan and Tetris!). I sold the PSP on eBay which just about covered the cost of the iPod.

I still find it hillarious that many PSP users LOVE the fact that they can play NES and SNES games on the go...

Perhaps Nintendo will finally wise up and allow all those purchased games we enjoy on the Wii to be transferred to a mobile device. Even if it is a GameBoy2 or DS2 in the future...

I just re-re-downgraded my psp last night to the OE firmware. Since there hasn't been a single psp game that I have wanted to play since Lumines I figured I might as well try to get some kind of use out of the damn thing.

Don't get me wrong its still a nice little piece of equipment, but Sony is just handling it wrong. A hand-held gaming device really needs new games, not just rehashes and FPSs. Its not all Sony's fault either, but they really need to get a leash on the 3rd party developers to get something good out for it.
